TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) Studies
Sweeney Lake
On March 1, 2007, the Bassett Creek Watershed
Management Commission approved conducting an excess nutrients TMDL (Total Maximum Daily
Load) study of Sweeney Lake in Golden Valley, Minnesota. The TMDL work
plan was divided into two phases and phase 1 has been completed. Phase 2
work is ongoing and current and upcoming tasks include: developing the
details of the implementation plan, preparing the recommended monitoring
plan, and preparing the draft and final TMDL reports. The draft
TMDL report is available for review and the BCWMC
anticipates that the final TMDL report will be completed by fall 2009.

Wirth Lake
On March 20, 2008, the Bassett Creek Watershed Management Commission
approved conducting an excess nutrients TMDL for Wirth Lake, located on Minneapolis
Park and Recreation property within the boundaries of the City of Golden
Valley. The upcoming tasks included in the TMDL work plan include:
modeling, conducting the stakeholder and public participation process,
evaluating improvement options, developing the allocations and
implementation plan, developing the monitoring plan, and writing the draft
and final TMDL report. The BCWMC anticipates the final report will be
completed by fall 2009.

Medicine Lake

Upcoming work on the TMDL includes: completing the final modeling report,
continuing the stakeholder and public participation process, evaluating
the improvement options, developing the allocations and implementation
plan, develping the monitoring plan, and preparing the draft and final
TMDL reports. The BCWMC anticipates the final report will be completed by
fall 2009.
