West Medicine Lake Park Pond ProjectThe West Medicine Lake Park Pond water quality project, completed on September 7, 2010, is located in the City of Plymouth and in the Plymouth Creek subwatershed, which drains into the Medicine Lake subwatershed, of the Bassett Creek Watershed. The project comprised the construction of a wet detention, or water quality, pond in West Medicine Lake Park east of West Medicine Lake Drive. The purpose of the project is to improve the water quality of Medicine Lake by reducing the amount of phosphorus and suspended sediments entering the lake. The project is estimated to reduce the amount of phosphorus reaching Medicine Lake by approximately 350 pounds per year. The Bassett Creek Watershed Management Commission (BCWMC) added this project as a capital project in 2007 to the Bassett Creek Watershed Management Commission's Capital Improvement Program (See BCWMC Resolution 07-08 and Resolution 08-07). On April 19, 2007, the BCWMC and the City of Plymouth entered into a Cooperative Agreement for the construction of the project at an estimated project cost of $900,000. On September 18, 2008, the Cooperative Agreement was amended to increase the cost estimate of the project to $1,100,000. The increase was to accommodate the costs of wetland mitigation expenses not included in the original project cost estimate.
