Project Number: ML-8
At the BCWMC's June 20, 2013, meeting, the City of Golden Valley communicated that it was not feasible to move ahead with the Lakeview Park Pond project as proposed due to site conditions. The City planned to investigate other water quality project options at Lakeview Park that would not involve pond construction.
The estimated cost of the Lakeview Park Pond project was $196,000 of which $34,000 was to be funded by the BCWMC's Capital Improvement Program Closed Project Account and up to $162,000 was to be paid from the BCWMC's 2012 ad valorem tax levy collected via Hennepin County in 2013.
The BCWMC, in cooperation with the City of Golden Valley, investigated the feasibility of constructing a pond in Lakeview Park, which would provide significant water quality benefits to Medicine Lake. Currently this area of Golden Valley drains to Medicine Lake without water quality treatment. The feasibility study reported that the pond would remove 83% of the total suspended solids and 52% of the phosphorous from the storm water draining to Medicine Lake.
Further assessment by the City of Golden Valley during the project's planning phase led the City to conclude that the construction of a pond at this site could not move forward as proposed due to conditions of the site.
